Your Question # 18
[#18] I'm really scared I've blasphemed the Holy Spirit and beyond forgiveness. My faith was slowly progressing but yesterday I researched about the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. This made my OCD mind go crazy and these thoughts about what the Phrasees did kept circuling through my mind and then I accidentally said Jesus' works were from the bad guy in my thoughts. Since then I've felt so much guilt, I've been sick to my stomach because I feel I cant go to heaven. Before I've read that scripture, those thoughts never ever entered my head, only when I read that scripture. I'm so nervous right now. Did the Phrasees know Jesus was from god and he was fulfilling propechcies and they just decided just to say he isn't from God? There are so many opinions on this topic. I'm just so scared I'm going to hell because of my stupid thoughts. Before I heard about this, I always knew Jesus as everyone else knows him, I never had the thoughts of the Phrasees, but since I've read that, my mind is just obsessing over this and its making me doubt my previous thoughts on Jesus. Please help me.
Great question, but from the start let me encourage you. If you have repented and received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and it sounds like you have, then REST assured you won’t go to hell. ALL God's children are subject to wicked thoughts, and actions. There is no justification for one to willingly practice such things, but it can happen. Our salvation doesn't rest on how well we 'perform', it totally rests on Christ and His work on the Cross – what He has done for our redemption. “…He made us accepted in the Beloved.” Ephesians 1:6.
The passage you read can be confusing, but always remember to keep in mind the context in which He was speaking, and to whom He was speaking. The Pharisees were a religious group in that day who rejected Christ and His work. They attributed His work to the devil, they TRULY meant that statement (I assume you did not). They did not acknowledge that Jesus' works were from God and His work was through the Person and anointing of the Holy Spirit. Now you would not say that would you? Of course not! Say now, Jesus is Lord!, can you do that? Have you done that? Ok then, in 1 Corinthians 12:3 it says: "Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit."
Many people today, and I am one of them, believe that the 'curse' Jesus pronounced was only on those while Jesus was on earth completing His ministry. They were watching Jesus and accused Him directly of 'working with the devil'.
The Bible says God 'Cleanses us from ALL sin', 1 John 1:9, that would be ALL our past sins, today's sins, and even future sins. I would hate for you to go through your Christian life worrying about every action and thought wondering if you did a sin or had a wayward thought that God would not forgive you. My friend that is not true. The blood of Jesus is far greater than anything we could do. Please be cautioned though, that it doesn't give us license to sin, if a person is truly saved, their 'want to' is transformed. What I mean by that is, one simply doesn't 'WANT TO' do the same sinful life they once lived. God is in the business of transformation, a new birth, a new man, etc. Romans 12:1-2; John 3:3, 16; Ephesians 4:17-24; 5:15-21;
One of the schemes of the devil is to cause fear and doubt. If he can accomplish that he can make a Believer ineffective in their walk and witness. Let me give you a couple last things to help.
Everyday try the following:
1. Wake up praising the Lord and committing the day to Him for His glory
2. Spend some time reading the Word of God and Prayer 1 Thessalonians 5:17
3. Ask the Lord to lead you in the work He is doing and wants you to do for Him.
4. REST in the Lord and be joyful in Him. Philippians 4:4
5. Be THANKFUL in all things 1 Thessalonians 5:18
6. Don't worry and stress Philippians 4:6
7. Be Joyful in the Lord Philippians 4:4
May God bless and give you peace,
