#39 Do all religions honor one supreme being?
Thank you for your question.
If you are asking 'do we all worship the same God', then the answer is an unqualified no!
The Bible says in Ephesians 4:4-5 "There is one body, and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism." Now before you say I proved your point, let me add what Jesus said in John 14:6 "...I am the way, the truth, and the life, No one comes to the Father except through Me."
All over the world people worship something. In India, they claim to have over 300 million gods. China still has those who worship their ancestors. In South and Central America there are tribes who worship pagan gods; there are pantheist, animist, etc.... In America there is a vast number of people who claim to 'know God' (spiritual) but have nothing to do with church, or Christian worship. My point is, people want to worship, but usually it is a god of their own choosing and one that appeals to their sense of right and wrong...not the God of the Bible. God says of Himself in Isaiah 46:9 "...For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me."
The God of the Bible calls us to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. He does not call us to 'believe' there is a God and leave it at that, but in order to know God, we must know Him ONLY through Christ. Our sins must first be forgiven in order to have a relationship with God, and then God gives us His Holy Spirit to draw us close to Him in fellowship. The Bible says in Romans 8:9 "But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." Verse 14 says: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God."
God also says that man is prone to seek gods which satisfy the flesh and carnal appetites. The One true God does not do that. He calls us do 'deny the self', Luke 9:23: "Then Jesus said to them: "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me." He further calls us to renounce the carnal desires and glorify Him. Romans 8:6 "For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." We don't live in a world like that. The world we live in seeks to get all it can in the form of pleasures, money, and relationships. People go from one thing to the other desperately trying to fulfill the emptiness in their lives.
In the O.T. we see a warning from the Lord to the nation, not to forsake the ways of the Lord and follow after the gods of the other nations; Deuteronomy 12:9 "You shall not at all do was we are doing here today - every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes." In Judges 21:25 "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes."
Today we see America doing exactly the same thing. We have cast off the ways of the Lord and have each turned 'to their own way'. We have forsaken the God of our youth and cling to the vain pleasures of this world. A nation can't go on much further in this direction without destruction, history has clearly taught this.
There is only One God of heaven and earth, and He has set the standard for how mankind is to approach and worship Him. His way can't be altered nor improved upon. Men/Women must come through Jesus Christ, He said of Himself that He is the 'Door': John 10:9 "I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."
You had a great question, many today are asking the same. I am encouraged because that tells me that folks like yourself want to know what is the 'right' way. After all, one's eternity is based on that decision. I pray if you have not received Jesus Christ as your Savior, you will take just a minute and pray and ask Jesus to forgive your sin and be your Lord and Savior. Please let us/me know if you make that decision so we can follow up and help.
