The Bible says when we get to heaven we “…will see His (Your) face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.” (Psalm 17:15). One song says: “I can only imagine what it will be like when I walk by your side, I can only imagine what my eyes will see when you face is before me, I can only imagine” (Mercy Me). Until that time we live in the anticipation of that future glorious moment.
I am challenged in my own walk and when I see others in their struggles as they focus on the immediate issues and fail to look through the circumstances and see God has our lives in His powerful, capable hands. Sure, trials will come, the devil didn’t go into hiding when he saw us walk the aisle and join a church; just the opposite, he turned his focus on us with a deadly determination to halt our walk, discourage us, and defeat us at every turn.
I know that doesn’t exactly sound encouraging. But wait…the Bible says we don’t have to live depressing, defeated lives. Unfortunately, we tend to forget who we are in Jesus, and Who He has sent to us. Let me remind you of a few things.
One, as a born-again believer you are a child of the King. You are Royalty! As a Pastor, I remind myself that I am not above anyone in the church. I am simply a mouthpiece for God at that moment. The messages God gives to me are being presented to members of His Royal family.
Two, as His children, we have immediate prayer access into the very throne room of God and can tell Him all our troubles. So, tell Him, and wait upon the Lord. He has guaranteed: “The victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57
Three, Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within your life. Think on this, Almighty God dwells IN you! Galatians 2:20. How then can the devil defeat and discourage us you ask? Because he deceives us into thinking that no real change has happened when we gave our lives to Jesus. Nothing is further from the truth! We have divine, holy authority in Christ. We are given authority in Him to resist temptation so that we do not fall back into a lifestyle of sin and rebellion, 1 Corinthians 10:12-13.
Four, God the Holy Spirit not only has called us, but has gifted us as well. He has given us supernatural, spiritual gifts in which God desires to be glorified in our lives. The devil cannot stop God from calling you nor giving you His gifts, but he can deceive and defeat you in the use of them…. IF you let him.
Some of the spiritual gifts we have are listed in Ephesians 6:10-18 in the form of “The Armor of God”. All we have to do is begin each day filled with the Spirit, and then by prayer put on His armor…girded about with Truth; taking The Shield of Faith, feet shod with the Gospel; the Helmet of Salvation; and the Sword, His Word.
When we are ‘armored up’, the devil has a tough time dragging us down and back into that old life. Be encouraged brethren, God has given to us so much more in Christ than what we can accomplish through worldly means and efforts of the flesh.
You are a child of the King, determine to live like it my friends. God wants to see you become victorious every day in this world, not just on special occasions.
May God’s peace rest on each of you for His Glory.
