Your Question #5
[#5] The greatest commandment is located in various places throughout scripture. Sometimes the words "mind and might" are interchanged. The meaning of these words do not interchange . Can you tell me more?
Great question. I will assume you are asking because you want to learn how to love the Lord even more. Let me address that first. Seek to walk with Jesus every day, and you will come to love Him and everything about Him. It isn't hard to love someone like Jesus. It's just difficult for us to express it sometimes. One reason He gives us the 'formula' for loving Him.
If you are referring to the passage in Matthew 22:37, (other ppgs: Luke 10:27; Mark 12:30) this is the only place that the word 'might' or 'strength' isn't used. That word means with all our 'effort', 'determination', 'sincerity'.
To love the Lord with all our heart means to love Him with total devotion with your whole being. This involves sacrifice of things we desire for that which He desires for us. It means that our priorities change in this life....from loving what we want, to loving and desiring what He wants for us.
To love the Lord with all your soul involves our life choices. For instance you may make a lot of money in a certain job. That job gives you security, and much of the 'good life' in this world. The soul drives us to seek what is pleasant and comfortable in life. Yet what would you choose if Christ calls you into full time ministry? Would you leave a lucrative career making lots of money to say yes to the mission field, or a pastorate? We must learn to love Jesus this much so, that whatever, whenever, and wherever He calls us, our answer is 'Yes Lord'! That is to love Him with all your soul.
To love the Lord with all your mind involves our worship. We are told in the Bible to: "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15. To fully worship we need to set our minds on the things of God, the only way to know what those 'things' are is by studying the Bible. Collossians 3:2 "Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth."
Worship also involves our prayer life. This is the intimate fellowship that God wants to have with us. I believe as a Pastor, the two weakest areas of every Christian is the lack of Bible and prayer time we have with the Lord. It is impossible to spend time with the Lord Jesus and not to think about our love for Him.
IF you haven't made a decision for Christ as your Savior, would you pause right now and give Him all your sin, and all your self? Ask Him to come into your life and be your Lord and Savior.
God bless, I pray I answered your question, if not, please give us feedback.
