Preacher I don’t know if I can do this. Preacher, I don’t know how long I can hold on. Pastor I’m trying the best I can. These and many other statements are from those that come asking for prayer and help when it seems their world is caving in. They look at me as if to ask: “Is this the way the Christian life is supposed to be?” I thought God would take care of all my problems.
I want to give you some simple ways for you to keep going on with the Lord and keep your faith at the same time. I will use the word “simple” to give you a way to keep hold of this.
S – Seek the Lord with all your heart; “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.” Isaiah 55:6 Trials and testings come at a time to draw us closer to Him, not to send us spiraling out of control.
I – Invite the Lord to fill you and walk with you each day so you may know His wisdom and rejoice in His presence. It’s strange how often people forget that God will never leave them ‘no matter what’. One can almost see a sense of panic about to come over them. The Lord knows that we will encounter many traps, snares, mountains, and deep valleys in this life, but His assurance to us is, He will always be there when we are in need, so ASK Him! Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
M – Meditate on His Word and His blessings. When you stop stressing and start trusting, you can see clearer how God will work and provide what is needed in your life. Stress and anxiety are thieves that rob us of our joy and peace. When we focus on Jesus, His word and promises, we will know that in all things we can trust Him. Philippians 1:6, 4:6-8, 13 "...being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." 4:6-8 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. verse13.. "I can do all things through Christ[b] who strengthens me."
P – Praise Him: I want us to embrace this point because praise is the spiritual reminder for us to express our joy, yes joy in those times of difficulty and struggle when life seems to tear us away from everything we hold dear. Praise will cause us to stop struggling and begin singing….try it! Praise will be that instant boost to your faith reserves and will endow you with supernatural strength when you need it most. Many of us know hymns and psalms that we can immediately sing or recite in times of discouragement. Ephesians: 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
L – Let Jesus have His way in the matter. Give it to Him and Let go! Tell Him what’s on your heart and Let Him handle it. Believe it when I say, God is big enough to handle any problem, difficulty, or decision you have. Let Him show you how He will lead you through. Let Him demonstrate His power. Let Him assure and comfort you by His grace. Let Him fill your heart with His peace. Simply Let Go! and Let God! Psalm 2:12 “….blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”
E – Enjoy the fact that you are a child of the Eternal, all powerful, ever present, infinitely wise, gracious, loving LORD! We are given such a marvelous gift in our salvation that we can come into the presence of our Heavenly God and call Him Father. I really believe God enjoys His children as much as you enjoy and embrace yours. I know that He wants the absolute very best for His children, and His mercies to us every day prove that. Psalm 68:19 "Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation"!
Let me ‘encourage’ you to remember, you are precious in His sight and greatly blessed. The Bible says He daily loadeth us with benefits, and His mercies are new ‘every morning’. You will begin to understand and appreciate this truth when you are seeking Him with your whole heart. I want you to think on this today…after all…walking with Jesus is quiet ‘simple’ when you think about it. The Father made it that way because of what Jesus has done for you. Keep your focus and confidence in Him. May God richly bless you all.
