THE POWER OF ONE TOUCH
One of my favorite accounts of Jesus’ miracles is found in Mark 5:25-34. Jesus was on the way to heal a young girl. While walking through a ‘throng of people’ one desperate woman who had an ‘issue of blood’ said to herself: “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” When she reaches through the crowd the Bible says she immediately felt that her malady had been healed. Jesus turns and looks at the people and asked: “Who touched My clothes?” The woman was fearful because by law she would have been considered ceremonially unclean and could not be in the mix of a mob like this. She finally comes forth and confesses all, and Jesus says: “Daughter, your faith has made you well.”
What I personally find moving in this story is that anyone else this ‘unclean’ woman would have touched would also be ceremonially unclean, but when she reached out by faith and touched the holy Son of God, the perfectly clean and righteous Lord, SHE became clean, not only of her illness, but she is made ‘completely’ whole to include all her sin as well.
It may not seem like it, but there are those in this world who would love to touch the ‘hem of His garment’ in order to be made clean. Though He is not physically in this world any longer, He has left His church here to reach out and ‘touch’ those in need. The sinner, the destitute, the lonely, the imperfect, the profane, the adulterer, etc., they are all in need of a loving touch from God. They wonder does God care? Is He even able to love them? Is He willing to bring physical, emotional, and spiritually healing to them? Our answer to them is ‘absolutely’! The Bible gives many accounts of people just like you and me who sought out Jesus just as they were…sinful, hurting, and desperate, and Jesus did not turn any away who came to Him. You see, they did not have the power to become clean or to heal themselves. Only Jesus can do that.
We must ask God to help us be aware of those around us and their needs so we can be ready to reach out of give a loving, kind, and gracious ‘touch’ to them. Ask the Lord Jesus to help you open your eyes, and your heart to touch others through Him who are in need of salvation and healing. YOU, in Christ have the power of one to make a difference in the lives of others through that ‘One Touch’ you bring.
May God Richly Bless You
